But the recent activities of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Jagan Mohan Reddy have raised a brow, as he appeared to break legal procedures.
With the Model Code of Conduct being in force for the MLC elections, the Election Commission (EC), the Guntur District Collector, and police officers refused permission for Jagan’s visit to the Guntur Mirchi Yard. Undeterred by these restrictions, Jagan went ahead with his visit, leading to a fierce political controversy.
YSRCP social media units drew comparisons to the common slogan “Pushpa’s Rule” in Chittoor, labeling Jagan’s move as “Jagan’s Rule” in Guntur. Apart from going against official directives, Jagan subsequently blamed the police for not providing him with proper security during his visit.
Consequently, based on the directive of the Election Commission, police registered a case against Jagan and eight YSRCP top leaders at Nallapadu Police Station, Guntur district. They are Ambati Rambabu, Kodali Nani, Lella Appireddy, Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy, and Nandigam Suresh.
Jagan’s sudden visit also resulted in serious traffic disruptions along the Guntur-Kondamodu main road, inconveniencing thousands of travelers for several hours. On top of this, YSRCP leaders pulled up on the road with their cars, cutting off the approach to the Mirchi Yard. Not only was it an inconvenience for daily commuters but also brought hardships for farmers who came to conduct business.
