Prime Minister Narendra Modi, replying to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address, came down heavily on the Congress-led Opposition over its multiple incidents of making mockery of democracy during its rule and then lecturing the NDA government, claiming threat to the Constitution.
He asked, “Who gave the power to the National Advisory Council (NAC) to overrule the Prime Minister post? Who allowed the PM’s chair to be ridiculed?” “Who gave the power to a Congress MP to rip apart a Cabinet note,” he asked, referring to the incident when Rahul tore a note before the press.
Recalling the tragic times of Emergency, PM Modi said: “Democracy was trampled upon, common people were harassed, many were jailed and tortured inside prisons.” He said that despite the dark history of oppression and suppression during its rule, Congress today makes tall claims about protection of the Constitution and tries to hide its dark deeds by waving a copy of Samvidhaan.
PM Modi reiterated the ‘Parjeevi Congress’ charge and said that the party has no standing of its own and relies on its allies for public support. However, it doesn’t have anything substantial other than canards and lies to woo the electorate. He said the 2024 general election verdict showed people have rejected propaganda, voted for performance and politics of misleading people has been defeated.
Meanwhile, the opposition MPs staged a walkout during Prime Minister Modi’s reply in Rajya Sabha, saying the Leader of the Opposition in the upper house was not allowed to speak. While Modi was replying to the debate on the ‘Motion of Thanks’ on the President’s address, Kharge tried to intervene. However, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar did not allow him to speak.
Following this, the Parliamentarians from the INDIA bloc took to sloganeering by shouting “LoP ko bolne do (let the Leader of Opposition speak) and later opted to walk out in protest. Following the walkout, Modi said the opposition is running away, adding that “they are insulting the Upper House, the glorious tradition of the Upper House”.
Claiming that the country is watching that those who spread lies do not have the strength to hear the truth, the PM said, “Those who do not have the courage to face truth, do not have courage to listen to the answers to questions that were raised in these discussions.”
Dhankar alleged that the opposition challenged the Constitution and disregarded the oath they took by walking out. “Khargeji insulted the oath of office by staging a walkout. They made a mockery of the Constitution. I hope they introspect,” he added.
