PM Modi Condoned Demise Of Media Baron Ramoji Rao

Eenadu and Ramoji Film City founder Ramoji Rao, passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana, on Saturday. According to the Star Hospital where he was being treated, the media baron took his last breath at 3:45 am.

Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, born on November 16, 1936, was the head of the Ramoji Group which owns the world’s largest film production facility Ramoji Film City, Eenadu newspaper, ETV Network of TV channels, film production company Usha Kiran Movies.

His other business ventures include Margadarsi Chit Fund, Dolphin Group of hotels, Kalanjali shopping mall, Priya pickles, and Mayuri Film Distributors. Rao was honoured with four Filmfare Awards South, five Nandi Awards and the National Film Award for his works in Telugu cinema.

In 2016, Rao was honored with the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor, for his contributions in journalism, literature and education. Ramoji Rao, was admitted to hospital due to heart-related problems, and passed away in the early hours of June 8, 2024.

PM-designate Narendra Modi also condoled the demise of Eenadu and Ramoji Film City founder Ramoji Rao. “The passing away of Ramoji Rao Garu is extremely saddening. He was a visionary who revolutionized Indian media. His rich contributions have left an indelible mark on journalism and the world of films”.

“Through his noteworthy efforts, he set new standards for innovation and excellence in the media and entertainment world. Ramoji Rao Garu was extremely passionate about India’s development. I am fortunate to have had several opportunities to interact with him and benefit from his wisdom. Condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers during this difficult time,” Modi tweeted.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, in a tribute, credited him with “adding credibility to Telugu journalism and adding value to the Telugu industrial sector.” Taking to X, he said: “Without Ramoji Rao, the Telugu press and media sector will never be able to fill the gap. Praying to God to rest his soul in peace… My deepest condolences to the family members.”

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and the Andhra Pradesh CM-designate N Chandrababu Naidu, in a post on X, spoke about his association with Rao. “His death is a great loss not only for the Telugu people….for the country as well… He was a pinnacle in the field of media. I was associated with Sri Ramoji Rao for four decades. His way of saying good is good and bad is bad… brought me closer to him,” he wrote.
