Perni Nani Challenges Chandrababu To Cancel Jagan-Adani Solar Deals

Monday, December 23, 2024

Admitting to allegations in the U.S. that Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, bribed the previous Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh for solar power projects, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu assured the Assembly that he will thoroughly investigate these charges and take necessary action. In a sharp riposte, YSR Congress Party leader Perni Nani challenged Naidu to take decisive steps regarding the agreements if he actually possessed the power.

Nani questioned Naidu’s credibility, asking whether he had the political will to cancel the solar power contracts made by the previous government with SECI (Solar Energy Corporation of India), a central government body. He accused Naidu of double standards, pointing out how TDP leaders criticized the YSRCP’s power deals, while the same TDP government had worked with Adani on similar projects. Nani also highlighted how the YSRCP government worked towards reducing power purchase rates for the state.

Clarifying the facts, Nani emphasized that the previous YSRCP government had only made deals with SECI, not with Adani directly. He also raised questions about Naidu’s decisions to purchase power at higher rates compared to other states, despite dealing with SECI. Additionally, Nani questioned whether Naidu had signed similar power purchase agreements with SECI a year and a half before Jagan’s tenure began.
