Eagle Division, Drug Control, Vigilance and Enforcement officers conducted raids on drug stores selling medicines without doctor’s prescription in AP. As part of `Operation Garuda’, 100 teams conducted surprise raids on drug stores across the state.
As per the orders of the DGP, Eagle Team, Vigilance and Enforcement and Police conducted joint inspections in medical shops and agencies. Eagle Division police kept a watch on the sale of narcotic drugs. Officers jointly conducted raids on drug stores selling psychotropic drugs without a doctor’s prescription.
Officers identified 645 hot spots in the state. The raids are being conducted based on information from the police that psychotic medicines like Alfrazolam and Tramadol are being sold illegally. Eagle Division Head A.K. Ravi Krishna said that abuse of psychotropic drugs was detected in drug stores in Bhavanipuram and Gunadala areas of Vijayawada.
Officials have conducted inspections in medical shops with the aim of preventing illegal sale of narcotics. Vigilance and Drug Control officials conducted inspections in several medical shops in Nellore district. As part of Operation Garuda, officers formed into six teams conducted inspections in Bosubomma, Stone House Peta, Madras Bus Stand areas of Nellore city as well as in Atmakur.
The officials examined the records related to the purchase and sale of narcotics. Vigilance CI Narasimha Rao and Drugs Control AD Veera Kumar revealed that action will be taken as per the law if illegal sale of narcotics is found. He said that the details will be revealed after the inspections being conducted across the district are completed.

It was initially found that narcotic drugs were being sold indiscriminately. Sleeping pills and sedative syrups from several companies are being sold as over-the-counter drugs without a doctor’s prescription.
As part of Operation Garuda, vigilance and drug control officers conducted raids on several drug stores in the joint Kadapa districts. As part of this, raids were also conducted at Janatha Drug Store. The officers found that the medicines sold did not match the medicines available in the store. The officers found that the details of some medicines were not included in the records.
