New Vice Chancellors Appointed For 9 AP Universities

The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed Vice Chancellors of nine universities, giving priority to talent. Higher Education Secretary Kona Shashidhar issued separate orders in this regard on Tuesday. Separate orders were issued relieving those currently in-charge from those responsibilities.

For the first time in the history of the state, a woman from the ST community, Prasanna Sri, has been selected as the VC of Adikavi Nannaya University in Rajamahendravaram. Minister Nara Lokesh worked for almost six months to select Vice Chancellors for universities.

After the coalition government came to power, VCs of 17 universities in the state voluntarily retired. The government recently issued an advertisement for filling these posts. A total of 2,000 applications were received, and more than 512 candidates competed. After filtering all these, the Higher Education Department issued orders to fill nine VC posts in the first phase.

Among the newly appointed VCs, four are professors and experts in engineering, three in science and two in social sciences.  In terms of social groups, there are four OCs, three BCs, one SC and one ST. Prasanna Sree, who was appointed as the VC of Adikavi Nannaya University, worked to save endangered tribal languages. She created scripts for the languages of tribal tribes such as Bhagata, Gadaba, Kolami and others.

Google also gave special importance to these scripts on its website. She was recognized as the Indian who created an atlas of endangered languages by creating the NDZ Alphabet Atlas. She did her PhD from Sardar Patel Mahavidyalaya in Sitanagaram, Vijayawada is her hometown.

IIT Kharagpur Mathematics Professor GP Rajasekhar has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, which will soon celebrate its centenary. He is from Visakhapatnam Simhachalam.

NIT Warangal Professor CSRK Prasad, who has experience working on US-India partnership in higher education, has been appointed as the VC of JNTU Kakinada. He is from Bapatla. He did his MTech and PhD from NIT Warangal.

Kuna Ramji, who has 23 years of teaching experience at AU, has been appointed as the VC of Krishna University. He is from Penubari, Padur Mandal, Srikakulam. He did his PhD from IIT Roorkee. He rendered services as VC of BR Ambedkar University  and Acharya Nagarjuna University In-charge VC.
