MLC Janga Krishna Murthy, who has recently joined TDP after resigning from YCP, was disqualified by the Legislative Council Chairman Koye Moshen Raju, even without seeking his explanation. He issued a gazette notification last night to this effect.
Janga Krishna Murthy is a leader from a backward community who has been working in the YSRCP since its inception. He was Congress MLA in the undivided Andhra Pradesh from Gurazala twice in 1999 and 2009. But he lost as YCP candidate in 2014.
However, Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy nominated him to the Legislative Council in recognition of his services to the party.
In this election too, Janga Krishna Murthy made every effort to get another to contest from Gurazala, but the party denied him an opportunity, as it did not want to disturb sitting MLA Kasu Mahesh Reddy. Soon after election schedule notification, he resigned from YCP and joined TDP in the presence of party chief N Chandrababu Naidu.
YCP Whip in the Legislative Council Lella Appi Reddy has complained against him seeking his disqualification in the wake of changing the party. He asked the Council Chairman to take action under the Prevention of Party Defection Act. Legislative Council Chairman Koye Moshen Raju recently responded to this and disqualified him.
However, Janga Krishna Murthy fumed about his disqualification and termed it as a partisan act. He wondered how the Council Chairman can disqualify him even without taking his explanation orally?
He said that he considers this act as an act against the backward classes. He said that YCP offered him MLC not individually, but as a representative of the backward classes. He alleged that YCP leaders put pressure on the chairman of the council and forced him to unilaterally disqualify him.
He said he was disqualified almost instantly, but no action was taken against MLAs like Vamsi and Maddali Giri, for years after their defection to the ruling party. He accused the YCP of trying to undermine the BC leadership. He alleged that they have a habit of leaving BCs after use.
