Stating said that the DPR has been given under the double-decker metro for Visakhapatnam, Municipal Administration Minister Dr P Narayana revealed that ‘Hyderabad, which has a population of one crore, has a ring road, and we will build a semi-ring road in Visakhapatnam in the same way’.
On the other hand, he said that Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation has recently appointed a general consultancy for Visakhapatnam Metro. He said that work will start in the month of October regarding Visakhapatnam Metro.
He said that the construction work of Bhogapuram airport will be completed by April 2026 and that out of the 22 roads proposed to connect Bhogapuram, 15 are already being completed. He said that the officials are preparing a plan for the remaining ones in 115 days. He said that new roads will be constructed in coordination with the National Highways Agency.
Municipal Minister Narayana visited Visakhapatnam and conducted a review with officials and public representatives at the VMRDA office. Development works to be undertaken within the GVMC limits and the resolution of pending issues were discussed. Speaking in this context, he explained that Rs. 7,000 crores are needed to complete the TIDCO houses.
He flagged that they were sidelined by borrowing during the YSRCP regime. He alleged that 7 lakh TIDCO houses were proposed between 2014- 2019, but they were stopped by the previous government. He deplored that they could not complete even 2 lakh houses.
Dr Narayana said that CM Chandrababu Naidu has resolved to allocate houses to the beneficiaries no matter what the cost. He promised to provide them by Vijayadashami this year. He was angry that the center had funded the Amrut scheme in 2021 to provide water to every house, but the YSRCP government was unable to provide a matching grant, so the funds were returned.
He said that Amrut funds came again because CM Chandrababu talked to the center. He said that Rs. 834 crores have been allocated for this. He clarified that surface water will come through the Amrut scheme in a few months.
