Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh has come to the aid of Jessie, a student who is working as a labourer in the cotton fields after she was denied a seat in KGBV. The Minister spoke to the officials about the fate of Jessie, a resident of Buduru village in Mantralayam mandal.
He made it clear that Jessie should get a seat in KGBV and wants her to study peacefully. He said that it is painful for hands that should be holding books and pens to get lost in cotton fields, no matter what the circumstances are. He also appealed to her said parents not to deprive their children of education.
Lokesh said that if parents send their children to school, they will get `Thalliki Vandanam’ assistance from the government and the government also provides them with neat uniforms, books, bags, shoes, socks and belts, besides mid-day meals with fine rice. He assured that it is their responsibility to teach children academic skills and make them useful people in our society.
He also made it clear that there is no safer place than school that can guarantee a future. “Study with peace of mind, little one, it is my responsibility to provide a seat in KGBV,” Minister Lokesh posted on social media platform X.
Meeniga Kumar and Santoshoma, from Buduru village in Mantralayam mandal of Kurnool district, have three children. They are a poor Dalit family. There is no cent farm in the village. Even if they migrate, the family cannot survive.
However, the couple dreams of educating their three children and making them beneficiaries with a firm resolve.
The eldest son Prabhas is studying in the seventh grade at the Nandavaram government hostel. The third daughter Manu is studying in the fourth grade at the government school in the same village. The second daughter Jessie completed the fifth grade last year.
There is only upto fifth grade in the village. She applied to the KGBV in Chilakaladona to get admitted to the sixth grade. But, she did not get a seat. Meeting with the district officials was of no use. Since the family could not afford to send her to another village for her education, they took her to work in the cotton fields.
After working in the cotton fields in Telangana for a month and due to the rains, she reached her hometown two days ago. She wanted to study and pleaded with the district officials that she would study if they gave her a seat in KGBV. Minister Lokesh, who came to know about the matter, assured the student that he would support her.
