Legendary director K Vishwanath who is known for his pathbreaking movies has breathed his last. He was aged 92. Born on 19th February 1930, Kasinathuni Vishwanath started his career as an audiographer and later went on to direct a total of 53 movies. He addressed various issues of caste, color, disability, gender discrimination, misogyny, alcoholism, and socio-economic challenges through his movies.
In 1965, he turned director with the movie Aatma Gauravam and since then there is no looking back for him. Shankarabharanam, Sagara Sangamam, Swayam Krushi, Swathi Mutyam, Aapadbandhavudu, Subhaleka, Saptapadi, and Sirivennela were some of his best works.
His films Swati Mutyam was India’s Official Entry for Best Foreign Language film at the 59th Academy Awards. In his illustrious career, Vishwanath received five National Film Awards, seven state Nandi Awards, ten Filmfare Awards South, and a Filmfare Award in Hindi. In 1992, he received the Andhra Pradesh state Raghupathi Venkaiah Award, and the civilian honor Padma Shri for his contribution to the field of arts.
In 2017, Kalatapasvi K Vishwanath was conferred with Dada Saheb Phalke the highest award in Indian cinema.
