Former Minister and BRS Executive President KT Rama Rao suggested that the Revanth Reddy government should focus not only on beauty pageants, but also on fire accidents. He urged them to take steps to prevent another loss of life in the fire in the city. 17 people died in a fire that broke out at Gulzar House in the old city on Sunday morning.
KTR inspected the accident site on Monday and met the family members of the fire victims and expressed his sympathies. He said that he did not come here to talk politically about the incident. He urged governments to save people’s lives. The Revanth government should not confine giving Rs. 5 lakh compensation, but should focus on people’s lives. He demanded that the Revanth government should give Rs. 25 lakh ex-gratia to the affected families.
He urged the government to respond with humanity. Saying that there was severe damage to the house and business, KTR requested the government to cooperate in restarting their business. As the Chief Minister is also holding Home Ministry, he said if he had come to the scene of the incident, officials would have worked better, he added.
Former Minister KTR suggested that the government should hold review meetings with the fire brigade personnel in the backdrop of summer. He deplored that fire engines reached the scene of the incident on time, but the victims are saying that there is no water. He questioned why the Revanth government did not even provide proper masks to the fire personnel?
He said that it is unfortunate that there is no oxygen cylinder in the ambulance. He said that this is the biggest fire accident in Hyderabad and the death of 17 members of the Agarwal family, who have been living near Charminar for 125 years, is a tragedy in the history of Hyderabad.
As the old city is a place with the highest population density, he expressed concern that if any accident happens, fire engines and ambulances are not even able to come. The officials should be given continuous training and mock drills should be conducted frequently, so that to prevent such tragedies in future, he added.
