Union Minister G Kishan Reddy criticized the Congress, which came to power with the promise of 42 percent reservation for BCs, and now is trying to deceive the BCs once again. By extending reservations for Muslims under OBC quota from 4 percent to 10 percent, he said BCs will get only 32 percent, as against existing 34 percent.
He reminded that when YS Rajasekhar Reddy was the Chief Minister, 4 percent reservation was provided to Muslims in the name of BC-E, and when the High Court had ruled twice that reservations were unconstitutional and such reservations were invalid, they got a stay order from the Supreme Court.
He was angry that the Congress party was acting unfairly towards the BCs by increasing the quota for Muslims from 4 to 10 percent. He lamented that in the name of the caste census, it had tried to drastically reduce the BC population and said that 56 percent were BCs, but 10 percent of them were Muslims. He alleged that it was trying to deceive the BCs by saying that only 46 percent were real BCs.
Kishan Reddy demanded that the Congress party should answer who is taking decisions to benefit from the 42 percent reservation that will be given in local bodies? He said that in the past, reservations were provided only to castes working in manual professions.
Saying that the Muslim community also has a chance to benefit from the 10 percent EBC reservation brought by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kishan Reddy flagged that Revanth Reddy and Rahul Gandhi are trying to give 10 percent reservation to Muslims in an unconstitutional manner along with BC reservations.
He said that in the past, a conspiracy was hatched in the name of 34 percent BC reservation in the GHMC elections, out of 150 municipal divisions, 50 seats were reserved for BCs, and out of those 50 BC seats, only those belonging to the Majlis party, who are not BCs, won.
He warned that now efforts are being made to benefit Muslims again in the name of 42 percent BC reservations. He accused Revanth Reddy and Rahul Gandhi of shrugging their shoulders in Delhi as if they have uplifted the BCs in some way.
