Kishan Reddy says Center Not Taken Any Decision on Banakacharla project

Friday, December 5, 2025

Union Minister and BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy made it clear that the Central government has not taken any decision on the Banakacharla project, proposed by the AP government. He said that the Central government should study the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) submitted by the AP government on the Banakacharla project in detail.

He said that the AP government has already given a report to the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Central Water Commission (CWC) on the issue raised by Telangana on Banakacharla. He revealed that the CWC will conduct a comprehensive review only after considering the policies, regulations, guidelines on rivers and the opinions of many states on water agreements.

He said that the Central Government will take the right decision when the report reaches the Central Government after the CWC takes a decision. However, he said that it is not right to criticize the BJP for what the Central Ministers are doing with the policy of some people.

Kishan Reddy opined that there has been no exchange of information from the AP and Telangana states so far and that the two Chief Ministers need to discuss.

Earlier, while inaugurating the Kaleshwaram project, he recalled that the then Chief Minister KCR had said that there had been a qualitative change in the two Telugu states, saying that there were no differences, no basin disputes, no misconceptions, no need for disputes, and if disputes were needed, we would not be able to provide water to the next generation.

In the past, when Andhra Pradesh was being deprived of three TMC of water from Telangana, he alleged that KCR had stayed in his farmhouse and not responded. Kishan Reddy made it clear that the BJP was saying the same thing then and now regarding Kaleshwaram.

He stated that experts from the Telangana irrigation sector had already said that there was exploitation in the construction of this project and that there were many doubts about the financial and technical feasibility of this project. Kishan Reddy revealed that even when BRS was in power, BJP demanded a CBI investigation into the Kaleshwaram corruption, and are demanding the same now.
