Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has written an open letter to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, demanding clarity on the delay in increasing reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) to 42% in local body elections. She criticized the Congress government for failing to honor its promise made in the Kamareddy BC Declaration, which assured caste-based enumeration and enhanced reservations within six months of assuming power. Despite being in office for over a year, no concrete action has been taken, she alleged.
Kavitha accused the Congress party of breaching its commitment to allocate ₹1 lakh crore to BC welfare over five years, with an annual allocation of ₹20,000 crore. She claimed that the last budget reflected inadequate allocations, contradicting their promise. She further alleged that the Kamareddy Declaration, a key commitment by the Congress, was violated in its first year of governance, eroding trust among BC communities.
Highlighting the lapse of terms for gram panchayats, mandal, and zilla parishads, Kavitha criticized the government for its inaction in holding elections with increased reservations. She expressed concerns over the “unscientific” BC enumeration process and accused the government of using a dedicated commission to delay implementation.
Kavitha demanded that the Congress government immediately fulfill its promise to increase BC reservations to 42% in local body elections, warning that the ongoing delays are causing significant injustice to BC communities in Telangana.
