Kaleshwaram Project Built for Commissions, Public Funds Wasted: Uttam Kumar Reddy

Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy claimed that the Medigadda barrage had collapsed during the tenure of KCR. Speaking after the National Dam Safety Meeting on Saturday afternoon, Uttam Kumar Reddy highlighted concerns over the misuse of public funds in the construction of the Kaleshwaram project.
Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasized that the Kaleshwaram project was constructed with the precious money of the state’s people. He stated, “We don’t want people’s money to be misused.”
He pointed out that the previous government had initiated the Kaleshwaram project in a grand manner, following the Congress government’s Pranahita-Chevella project, which aimed to provide water to 16 lakh acres. Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the Kaleshwaram project was strategically placed near Medigadda despite inadequate water availability and suggested that constructing it at Tummadihatti would have been more effective.
Uttam Kumar Reddy accused the previous BRS government of redesigning the project for commissions, resulting in the accumulation of high-interest loans. “Kaleshwaram was built for commissions,” he asserted, adding that the project had led to the wastage of Rs 1 lakh crore of public money and an annual interest payment of Rs 10,000 crore.
