Even after a year of suffering a crushing defeat in the assembly elections, the former chief minister and YCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy is still trying to deceive the people. There is a debate among YSRCP leaders started after his `assembly drama’ was enacted on Monday. He was exposed nakedly that he is more worried to keep up his assembly seat and not ready to face disqualification, more than public issues.
As a result, he came to the assembly for five minutes, signed the papers and left, and then immediately announced that he would not attend the assembly sessions. Even YCP strong supporters are asking him whether the ruling TDP promised him to provide `opposition status’ if he attends assembly at least once? Why did he attend and later announced `boycott’ of the session?
This has given clear indication that he needs to attend the assembly once again, if he wants to preserve his assembly seat. Key leaders in the YCP were also unable to digest Jaganmohan Reddy’s strategy of absenting assembly sessions. They felt that it will give them a good opportunity to expose the government on implementation of Super Six and other public issues.
In a face saving mission, the YCP MLAs are trying to explain that they went to the assembly to make the ruling party’s stance clear to the people on the issue of opposition status by signing the petitions. Will people believe this argument? Does it mean that they will take a complete stand as a political party?, many wondered.
Moreover, YCP’s dual strategy of attending Legislative Council and absenting from the Legislative Assembly created confusion even among YCP cadre. It may be recalled that YCP is the recognized opposition party in the Council. YCP leaders are also expressing surprise that this does not make sense.
A former minister from YCP believes that Jagan should have used the growing opposition towards the coalition government politically since he lost power, but unfortunately he is pushing the party into further trouble with his actions. He said that one episode that took place in the Assembly on Monday is enough to say that Jagan has not changed at all.
