Thursday, October 10, 2024

Former Chief Minister and YCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy joined Congress party’s chorus against EVMs following its shocking defeat in Haryana polls, asserting that the only way to ensure the true spirit of democracy is to revert to the traditional paper ballot system.

He drew a parallel between the Haryana results and those of Andhra Pradesh, where election-related cases are still pending in courts. In a tweet addressing the 2024 Haryana election results, he expressed his concern over the growing disconnect between election outcomes and popular perception.

Referring to examples of major developed nations such as the USA, UK, Canada, and others who rely on paper ballots, Jagan urged Indian lawmakers to consider this shift. According to him, adopting paper ballots would restore and enhance public confidence in the electoral process, thereby strengthening democracy at its core.

Meanwhile, referring to TDP’s Red Book, allegedly containing the names of senior officials colluded with Jaganmohan Reddy’s regime during the last five years, in its irregular and corrupt practices, the former chief minister said that they are maintaining a ‘Good Book’.

“Good Book,” noting the names of those who work hard and contribute positively to the party. He assured that those individuals would certainly receive opportunities and promotions after the party returned to power. YS Jagan made these remarks during a meeting with party leaders from Mangalagiri at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli.

Admitting that while in opposition one has to be prepared to face challenges, pressures and difficult situations, the former chief minister said that heros and leaders will emerge from such crisis situations only.

YS Jagan highlighted the unique circumstances in the Mangalagiri constituency and expressed his commitment to providing full support to party workers, especially in times of official misconduct. He emphasized the importance of instilling confidence in party workers and ensuring that they feel backed by the party during difficult times.
