Former Chief Minister and YCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, expressed concern over the government’s inadequate response to the Atchutapuram incident. He demanded that compensation that is due should be given immediately to the victims.
Jagan consoled victims of the Essenscia Pharma Company at Atchutapuram SEZ on Friday and reassured them, inquiring about their conditions and the details of the incident. Jagan met 18 victims receiving treatment at Anakapalli Usha Prime Hospital. YS Jagan learned about the treatment and health status of the victims from the doctors, emphasizing the need for better medical care.
During a visit to the hospital where victims are being treated, Jagan alleged that there is a lack of urgency displayed by the government officials in the aftermath of the accident. He pointed out that the Home Minister failed to supervise relief efforts, and the Industries Minister was unaware of which department was responsible for the factory in question.
Referring to the failures of the government, he said that ambulances could not be sent to the spot, and victims had to be transported in company buses. This lack of swift action stood in stark contrast to the response seen during the LG Polymer accident, where local authorities quickly mobilized to assist victims, he said.
He recalled arriving at that scene at 11 PM and emphasized that despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, relief efforts were promptly executed. He lamented that the present government is only known for demolishing, killing, and destroying assets.
The former chief minister advised that compensation should be given with sympathy and at the appropriate time. If compensation is not provided to the victims, he warned that he will personally come and stage a protest.
Alleging failures of the government led to this mishap, Jaganmohan Reddy said that this accident wouldn’t have occurred if industries had been properly monitored. If they had focused on essential issues, he said, this situation wouldn’t have arisen.
