The All India Congress Committee is concentrating on Telangana like never before to repeat the magic of Karnataka by teaming up with all the parties which go against KCR and BRS. However, one friendly ally is not in cooperative terms to forge an alliance and it is none other than YS Sharmila’s YSRTP as the party founder’s demands are exuberant for the AICC.
For some days, it was heavily speculated that Sharmila’s YSRTP is going to be merged with the Congress in Telangana and this would fetch Sharmila either an MLA or an MP seat along with her close followers. Even the senior leader of Congress, KVP Ramchandrayya welcomed his best friend YSR’s daughter into the Congress. However, the current talks between Sharmila and Priyanka Gandhi who is handling this merger possibility in Telangana seemed to be failing as Sharmila is demanding 20 seats for her party members including 4 from Khammam district alone. This is too much for Congress to give for the sake of YSRTP’s support as Congress feels they won’t get benefitted much from this merger. Even Revanth Reddy, the president of TPCC told the high command that YSRTP has a smaller vote bank of just one percent in Telangana.
So the latest development is that there might not be a merger between YSRTP and TPCC but they would go along as an ally with just one seat for Sharmila somewhere in Telangana. In case she loses in her constituency, Congress is ready to make her an MP from Karnataka.
