The 69-year-old Infosys co-founder Senapathy Kris Gopalakrishnan, along with former Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Director Balaram and 16 others, has been booked under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act.

The case was registered on Monday at the Sadashiva Nagar police station in Karnataka’s Bengaluru following the directions of the 71st city civil and sessions court (CCH), following a complaint from a man who claimed he was wrongfully implicated in a honey trap case and dismissed from his position at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), where Kris Gopalakrishnan is a member of the Board of Trustees.

The complainant, Durgappa, a member of the tribal Bovi community and a former faculty member at the Centre for Sustainable Technology at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), alleged that in 2014, he was wrongfully involved in a honey trap case, leading to his dismissal from his position. He also accused others of subjecting him to caste-based abuse and threats.

Durgappa accused Gopalakrishnan, a member of IISc’s Board of Trustees, and several other faculty members of orchestrating the alleged wrongful termination. He claims he was deliberately targeted to undermine his position and credibility. The FIR names prominent academics, including IISc Director Govindan Rangarajan, Sridhar Warrier, and Sandya Vishwswaraih, among others.

Kris Gopalakrishnan, a co-founder of Infosys, served as the company’s CEO from 2007 to 2011 and vice chairman from 2011 to 2014. He has been instrumental in transforming Infosys into a global leader in IT services, with revenues exceeding $11 billion. Awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2011, Gopalakrishnan has also held prestigious roles such as President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and co-chair of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

In January 2011, the government of India awarded Gopalakrishnan the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian honor. Currently, he chairs Axilor Ventures, focusing on nurturing startups in India. There has been no official response from Gopalakrishnan or IISc regarding the allegations.
