The AP High Court took serious note of journalist- turned activist P. Vijayababu’s PIL condemning AP police filing cases against those who posted obscene posts on social media during the YCP regime. A former editor of a Telugu daily, Vijayababu was AP Information Commissioner during Congress regime and became Telugu Academy President during YCP regime and in between was official spokesperson of Jana Sena and BJP for some time.
The High Court heard a PIL filed by journalist Vijayababu against the police registering mass cases against social media activists on Wednesday. On this occasion, the court expressed deep displeasure over the filing of PILs in connection with these cases.
The court questioned whether it was wrong for the police to file cases against those posting obscene posts? The bench commented that at one stage, posts were posted to insult judges as well. It clarified that no blanket orders can be issued to stop the police from taking action.
It revealed that the concerned persons can directly approach the court if they have objections to the cases filed by the police. It made comments that if the police are acting in accordance with the provisions of the law against those posting obscene posts, how can they stop them?
The High Court bench has revealed that it will issue appropriate orders regarding the PIL. The state government has brought to the notice of the High Court bench the posts that were recently posted on some social media platforms, insulting some women.
Earlier, the High Court bench had said that posts were also posted on judges, and how could it be stopped if such obscene posts were posted? Similarly, it was clarified that the police will definitely register cases against those who post obscene posts as per the law. The High Court reiterated that blanket orders should be issued in this regard under any circumstances. The High Court has clarified that posting objectionable posts on social media in this way is not condoned.
