A team of High Court judges will visit Kurnool on the 6th of this month to select a suitable building for the establishment of the High Court bench. State Law and Minority Welfare Minister N Md Farooq said that they will inspect the building belonging to the Electricity Regulatory Commission at Dinnedevarapadu.

The minister explained that special steps are being taken under the leadership of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for the establishment of the bench. He recalled that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had said that a High Court bench would be set up in Kurnool during 2014-19 only.

Accordingly, he revealed that special steps are being taken to set up a bench in Kurnool. He said that to set up a High Court bench, there should be 15 judges, and the necessary building and infrastructure would be required for that, added.

Meanwhile, the High Court Registrar had written a letter to Kurnool District Collector Ranjit Basha on January 29 last month, requesting him to submit complete details regarding adequate facilities for 15 judges for the establishment of a permanent High Court bench in Kurnool.

Responding immediately to this letter, Kurnool Collector Ranjit Basha wrote a letter to the Superintendent Engineer of Roads and Buildings, Municipal Corporation Commissioner and RDO. He asked them to examine and report on whether there are government/private buildings with the facilities requested by the High Court.

The district officials have extensively examined the buildings required for the establishment of the High Court bench in Kurnool and for the accommodation of judges, officials and staff. They found a new building of the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) in Dinnedevarapadu, on the outskirts of Kurnool city, was constructed by the officials last year at a cost of about Rs. 25 crores.

It has four spacious halls and special rooms available for the needs of the court. The guest house attached to this building and its four suites can be used. The officials have sent preliminary proposals to the High Court Registrar in relation to all these. Now a team of High Court judges coming to Kurnool on the 6th will inspect this building and will also examine other facilities being available in the city.
