Sajjala Bhargav Reddy, the son of former YSRCP General Secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy and the party’s social media coordinator, has been granted temporary relief by the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Bhargav Reddy faced nine cases across the state, stemming from allegations that he oversaw social media posts during the tenure of the previous YSRCP government. To challenge these charges, he approached the court with a petition seeking to quash the cases.
The allegations against Bhargav Reddy revolve around his involvement in instructing and coordinating posts on social media platforms. In his petition, Bhargav Reddy claimed dismissal of all the charges stating that he is working as a coordinator in social media and such posts were a part of his work. Considering the same, the court has issued notices to the police directing them to file responses.
In a significant development, the court provided Bhargav Reddy with temporary protection from arrest. Recognizing that any delay in the proceedings could result in his arrest, the High Court directed that Bhargav Reddy should not be arrested for the next two weeks. This gives the police time to submit their counter-statements. Meanwhile, the police are preparing to present testimonies from various YSRCP social media activists, including Varra Ravinder Reddy, to the court.
The court ruling brought a temporary reprieve for Bhargav Reddy. However, the case still lingers on, and arguments from both sides are anticipated in the coming weeks. This battle in court can become a landmark case with strong implications for social media usage and political personalities in the state.
