Former Finance minister and BRS senior leader T. Harish Rao has expressed deep concern over the series of deaths of police officers in Telangana, who are supposed to protect the lives of people.
He deplored that an an SI in Mulugu district, a constable family in Siddipet, an SI and a constable in Kamareddy… a constable family in Sircilla, and a head constable in Medak Kulcharam committed suicide within a short period of time. He wondered whether the government does not care if police officers are committing suicides?
Harish Rao expressed his concern that the lives of those who are supposed to maintain peace and security are being protected. He said that the government’s negligent attitude in fulfilling pending promises and work pressures are having a serious impact on the police.
He appealed to the Telangana state DGP to conduct a departmental investigation into these suicides to bring out the truth. He urged the state Congress government to conduct counseling with psychologists to prevent suicidal thoughts among the police.
Harish Rao advised Police friends that they should realize suicide is not a solution to any problem. He reminded them that they have achieved police jobs with great difficulty. Do not betray the trust placed in you by your family members and parents.
He advised them not to lose precious lives and said that the society will be safe only if the police, who are supposed to save the lives of the people, perform their duties with self-confidence.
Meanwhile, DGP Jitender responded to the suicides of the police in the state, said that not only this year.. but every year too, policemen commit suicide for some reason. However, he made it clear that there are no problems in terms of the police department. He said that in many places, policemen commit suicide due to financial and personal difficulties.
He explained that only in some cases, they commit suicide due to work pressure. The DGP clarified that family counseling is being conducted for the police to prevent them from having suicidal thoughts.
