The entire politics of AP always revolves around the caste of Kapus as they comprise as much as 27% of AP’s vote bank. Despite its vast population, there were not many promising leaders who stood up for the real welfare of the BCs. However, two names often float among the AP political circles whenever Kapus are mentioned and they are the veteran leader Harirama Jogaiah and Mudragada Padmanabham.
Mudragada Padmanabham made more sound news than Jogaiah with the unfortunate incident of setting a train on fire led by his demanding 5% reservations for Kapus under CBN’s regime. Since Jagan came into power, Mudragada went into silent mode and did nothing rather than write letters to the CM without questioning or protesting as he did in CBN’s ruling. On the flip side, It was Harirama Jogaiah who strived for the reservation for the BCs and made it mandatory in CBN’s ruling but it was later scrapped by Jagan. Jogaiah who is in his 80s and weak is still fighting for the reservations by approaching the High Court challenging Jagan’s government while Mudragada is enjoying his comfort sitting silently on Jagan even though the latter refuted the reservation which he promised during the Padayatra.
Looking at all these, Jogaiah is labeled as the true leader of Kapu’s welfare and a real warrior who is fighting even in the 80s. Recently he met the Janasenani Pawan Kalyan and extended his full support for Janasena. Even though Pawan Kalyan refuses to identify himself as a Kapu leader, the fact that he hailed from the same community and Jogaiah backed him could do wonders for the party. It is remarkable that Jogaiah warned his fellow Kapu Minister Amarnath not to criticize Pawan Kalyan or else it would be worse for his political future.
