Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) authorities have acted against illegal constructions of YCP MP Vijayasai Reddy’s daughter Neha Reddy, built on the seashore. GVMC officials took action after receiving complaints about the construction of concrete walls on the coast in violation of Coastal Regulatory Zone rules.
GVMC officials on Wednesday morning demolished the illegal structures built on the sea shore by Rajya Sabha member P Vijayasai Reddy of YCP in the name of his daughter Neha Reddy in the Bhimili seashore of Visakha district.
During the YCP regime in the state Vijayasai Reddy and other YCP leaders undertook large scale illegal constructions in and around Visakhapatnam, in which key officials colluded with them. The GVMC officials acted on the complaint given by Jana Sena corporator Peethala Murthy Yadav, who filed a Public Interest Litigation in the High Court on this matter.
Vijaya Sai Reddy’s daughter Neha Reddy also filed an impleaded petition to protect their illegal construction from demolitions during the investigation. The High Court, which investigated these, sought the opinion of the Mahavisakha Municipal Corporation. The GVMC clarified to the High Court that the construction on the coast is against environmental norms.
Then, the High Court has ordered them to take action within 15 days. With this, the GVMC officials demolished the illegal concrete walls with the help of JCBs on Wednesday morning. The GVMC has to submit this report to the AP High Court on Monday.
When the YCP government was in power, large-scale constructions broke out on the coast from Visakha to Bhimili in violation of the Coastal Regulatory Zone rules.
Many new buildings have come up in the years 2023 and 2024 in violation of the CRZ rules within two kilometers of Bhimili sea coast. It is interesting to know what action the GVMC authorities will take regarding the rest of the buildings in the wake of the demolition of Vijaya Sai Reddy’s daughter’s building by the High Court order.
