Senior TDP leader and Rajahmundry Rural MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chaudhary has been selected as the Proterm Speaker of the AP Assembly. He won as MLA seven times to the assembly. After Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu he is the only MLA, who has been elected seven times.

Legislative Affairs Minister Payyavula Keshav informed him about the government decision and requested him to act as Proterm Speaker, for which he agreed. The governor Abdul Nazeeb is likely to administer the oath to Buchaiah Chaudhary as proterm speaker tomorrow.

He is the founder member of TDP and in a way senior to Chandrababu Naidu in the party. He was in NTR’s cabinet for a brief time. He has won from Rajahmundry Rural constituency by over more than 50,000 majority. Even at the age of 77, he is enthusiastically serving the public.

After NTR, Butchaiah Choudhary is known as the younger brother among the Telugu Desam ranks. He also served as General Secretary in TDP. Though Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdhary is known as a strong leader of the Kamma community, winning with a massive majority from a constituency dominated by Kapus indicates his mass appeal.

In 2019 YS Jagan wave also he won from here. Though a senior leader due to various combinations he was unable to get an opportunity to serve in the cabinet. But he has never expressed his discontent and is known as an outspoken leader.

Meanwhile, the government has decided to hold the first session of the assembly on June 21 and 22 and make arrangements accordingly. In this session, Butchaiah Chaudhary will take oath with the members including CM Chandrababu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, YCP leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy and others. After that, the Speaker will be elected. The name of the former minister and senior MLA Ayyannapatra is going rounds as the next Speaker. He also elected to the Assembly seven times.
