“Well done.. We did not expect that the most crucial diaphragm wall construction work would be carried out in August by controlling the flood flow to 16 meters. When we visited Polavaram during the same season last year, we did not expect that the diaphragm wall construction work would be carried out so quickly. It is commendable that construction work is being carried out even during floods,’’ a team of international experts praised the Polavaram contracting companies and engineering officials.
Members of the international expert team and a team of officials from organizations under the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti visited the Polavaram project area on Sunday. The teams mainly visited the Gap-2 area where the earth cum rock fill dam will be constructed.
On this occasion, the contractor companies Bauer, Megha and design and manufacturing company Afri explained the precautions taken to limit the flood water to 16 meters and prevent any hindrance to the construction of the diaphragm wall.
The international expert panel also expressed satisfaction over the quality standards being met in the construction of the critical and sensitive diaphragm wall in the project.
Meanwhile, experts advised the design firm, AFRI, to pay special attention to the diaphragm wall and ECRF dams being constructed in the Gap-2 area. International experts said that as you go deeper in this area, there is more clay than sand. It is said that it is not easy to mix concrete in this clay.
Experts warned that clay weakens the cement mix, which will affect the strength of the structure. Experts reminded that there are delays in the construction work of the buttress dam, diaphragm wall and ECRF dams and that they are not being completed on time.
They suggested that in order to complete the work as per the action plan in the future, project designs should be prepared in advance and awareness should be raised about how many days each work will take. Meanwhile, members of the central team left for Delhi on Sunday. Members of the international expert team arrive Vijayawada on Monday and from here will depart for their respective countries.
