Former YSRCP MLA Pinnelli Arrested For Election Misconduct

Monday, July 1, 2024

Former YSRCP MLA of Macherla segment in Andhra Pradesh, Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy, who made headlines a few days after the assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh were held for allegedly damaging EVM on the polling day and also resorting to violence in his constituency when the model code of conduct was in force, has reportedly been arrested by the police on Wednesday evening in Narsaraopeta district.

As the anticipatory bail application of Pinnelli in the four cases filed for election-related malpractices was cancelled by the High Court, he was immediately taken into custody as soon as the order was passed earlier today. He was moved to SP office and will be produced before the court soon.

On June 20th, the AP High Court heard the arguments on his petitions to grant anticipatory bail and prevent him from getting arrested. The judgement was reserved for Wednesday. Just a while ago, the High Court pronounced the judgement in this case. Last month, when cases were registered against him for the alleged misconduct, Pinnelli approached the court and got a temporary relief in the form of anticipatory bail. However, the court now refused to entertain his bail petitions and struck down the case.

Pinnelli has been facing several charges for creating violence in Macherla. CC Videos from Palvay Gate polling booth revealed that EVM was vandalised by Pinelli on the day of polling. Also, he attacked a person named Namburi Seshagiri Rao who confronted him after damaging the EVM. He also abused a lady at the polling station for raising voice on him. He and his brother created violence in Macherla after the polling day and also manhandled a CI.

Pinnelli will now face a long legal battle because there are adequate proofs supporting his malpractices. He lost by a margin of 33k votes to TDP’s Julakanti Brahmananda Reddy in the recent elections.
