Ex-Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan, arrested over the alleged kidnapping and harassment of Dalit youth Mudunoori Satyavardhan, remains in police custody. The court had allowed for a three-day custody period, and the first day of interrogation was conducted on Tuesday at Krishnalanka police station. Sources say that Vamsi arrived well-prepared, as if he had anticipated the line of questioning by the police and prepared his answers in advance.
One of the most important details of the probe is the Gannavaram TDP office attack. YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had earlier claimed that the attack was a response to inflammatory comments made by TDP leader Kommareddy Pattabhiram, which are said to have ignited tensions among YSRCP cadre. Remarkably, Vamsi’s replies during questioning reflected Jagan’s words, pointing towards a choreographed version.
When probed further, Vamsi reportedly provided vague or evasive responses. He admitted to using three mobile phones but claimed he couldn’t recall where they were. Regarding Satyavardhan’s presence at his Hyderabad residence, he acknowledged that the youth had stayed there for a night but maintained that he was unaware of his identity at the time. Denying any role in threats or coercion, Vamsi insisted that Satyavardhan had voluntarily given his court statement and that he had no influence over the situation.
Another critical angle under scrutiny is Vamsi’s movements following the alleged abduction. Sources indicate that he came from Hyderabad to Tadepalli shortly after the incident, raising suspicions as to why he had turned off his mobile phones en route—perhaps to avoid tracking. When confronted about his trip, he admitted to traveling but denied meeting anyone in Tadepalli. However, when asked about the reason behind his visit, he reportedly remained silent.
With the police presenting substantial evidence, Vamsi could not refute significant charges, particularly about Satyavardhan’s visit to his residence and his own journey to Tadepalli. As the interrogation proceeds, more will be known in the coming days.
