Former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy Sent To 14-Day Judicial Remand

Friday, December 5, 2025

YSRCP senior leader and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy was directed by the Venkatagiri court in Nellore district to undergo 14 days of judicial remand. Under strict security, according to the direction given by the court, he was moved to the Nellore district jail.

The arrest of Kakani by Nellore district police on Sunday evening triggered confusion as the authorities issued divergent reports about where he was being held in detention. Officials first announced that he was arrested at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, while attempting to flee. Subsequent reports, however, said he was actually detained from a resort in Bengaluru’s vicinity. The remand report presented to the court attested that the arrest was made in a village resort on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

He was taken to Nellore at the crack of dawn on Monday and held at the district police training school. The police then produced him at the Venkatagiri court, with increased security measures in place.

The same court had earlier dealt with a sensational case of alleged theft of documents in a defamation case filed by TDP leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy against Kakani. That one continues to remain in the public memory, and this latest turn of events has further added fuel to the political rhetoric.

With Kakani in judicial custody, the controversy has again caught attention and generated political debate all over Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Nellore. His tainted political background and ongoing legal cases are evoking keen interest from the media and the public.
