The AP police has arrested retired CID ASP Vijaypal in the deputy speaker Raghu Ramakrishnam Raju (RRR)’s custodial torture case. After questioning him at Prakasam district SP’s office by SU Damodar on Tuesday from 11 am onwards, finally he was arrested in the evening at 7 PM.
Vijaypal is facing investigation in the case of illegal arrest of RRR, during the previous YSRCP government regime and the using of third degree violence against him. Vijaypal was also interrogated here earlier on the 13th of this month.
According to police sources, he was asked about 50 questions and for almost all questions, he has given vague replies. He simply answered ‘I don’t know.. I don’t remember.. I forgot’. SP Damodar has reportedly prepared ground for his arrest in the wake of the Supreme Court rejecting Vijaypal’s anticipatory bail application.
In 2021, CID officials registered a case against Raghuramakrishna Raju for making inappropriate comments against then AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy. He was then forcibly taken from Raghurama’s residence in Hyderabad to the Guntur CID Regional Office.
Raghuramakrishna Raju filed a complaint at Guntur Nagarampalem police station on July 11 this year, alleging that he was tried for attempted murder in the third degree during his custody that night. The police registered a case against then CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, then CID chief PV Sunil Kumar, head of the intelligence department PSR Anjaneyulu, CID Additional SP Vijaypal, GGH Superintendent Prabhavathi and others.
The High Court rejected Vijaypal’s request for anticipatory bail in this case. With this, Vijaypal approached the Supreme Court on October 1. The Supreme Court granted interim orders providing protection to Vijaypal. It said that no action should be taken until further orders are issued.
However, a two-judge bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Prasanna B Varale, which heard the petition on Monday, dismissed the petition of retired Additional SP Vijaypal of CID after hearing the arguments of both the parties. In this order, the police arrested Vijaypal, who appeared for the hearing on Tuesday.
