At a time Telangana farmers are facing severe hardships due to the shortage of DAP fertilizer, they are doubly victimized as
fertilizers due to Telangana farmers are being sent to Punjab. Companies are desperate to meet the shortage of fertilizers for Punjab farmers by ripping off Telangana farmers.
It is learnt that some lower-level officials in Markfed are cooperating with these companies. Even in such dire circumstances, even though the fertilizer racks (fertilizers coming by train) allocated to the state have arrived, they have been sent back without unloading them here.Some officials in Markfed have been running a conspiracy with the companies.
It is learnt that the arrival of the racks in the state has been hidden from the higher-ups. This same conspiracy has been going on throughout the month of November. There has been a shortage of DAP across the country this season.
As the prices of raw materials required for the manufacture of DAP have increased in the backdrop of wars in many countries, companies have reduced the import and manufacture of DAP. Due to this, there is a severe shortage in Punjab and Haryana and several northern states.
Moreover, the central government has also cut the allocations of the remaining states to meet the shortage in those states. Sources in the agriculture department said that the fertilizers allocated to the state were shifted to Punjab instead of being given to the state.
The said companies have bribed some officials of the Agriculture Commissionerate and Markfed for this. In the wake of the shortage of DAP in the state, Markfed MD Srinivas Reddy held a review with the district Markfed managers 3 days ago. After inquiring about the fertilizer stocks, it came to light that the fertilizers that had arrived in the state had gone astray.
It is learnt that the MD expressed his anger over the negligence of the concerned officer and asked why the flakes were not unloaded when there was a shortage of DAP and why the companies refused to provide the fertilizer and why the matter was not brought to his attention. But, the concerned officer said to remain silent.
