EC suspends Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar

Monday, December 23, 2024

Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar was suspended by the Election Commission of India today evening for his alleged breach of the model code of conduct. He was directed to submit an explanation for his misconduct when the election code was in force.

Going into the news, Anjani Kumar met top Congress leader and CM designate Revanth Reddy earlier today when the counting for assembly elections in Telangana was underway. Surprisingly, DGP along with Additional DG Mahesh Bhagawath and Additional DG Law and Order Sanjay Dutt reached Revanth’s residence and greeted him with a bouquet even before the declaration of final results.

Many were surprised by the promptness with which the DGP and other police officers met Revanth Reddy and discussed security arrangements to be made ahead of the swearing-in ceremony even without waiting for the complete results of the assembly elections. The trio met Revanth just after a few rounds of counting were completed and there were clear indications that Congress would emerge as the single largest party in the State.

Anjani Kumar was an IPS officer of the 1990 batch. He took charge as DGP of Telangana in December last year after the retirement of M. Mahendra Reddy.
