EC Greenlights Amaravati Construction Tenders

The ambitious plan of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to make Amaravati the state capital is being implemented by the Andhra Pradesh government. The administration took the first crucial step in clearing out rain and flood waters that had stagnated in the buildings of the region for the last five years. To speed up construction, the government started the tendering process, aiming to finalize it by February.

However, the progress hit a temporary roadblock due to the enforcement of the election code of conduct in light of the ongoing MLC elections. The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) had lined up tenders for several iconic buildings and permanent infrastructure projects, but election officials directed that all activities be put on hold. This posed a significant challenge for the government, as any further delay would push the process to March.

To navigate this hurdle, the state government approached the Central Election Commission (CEC), requesting an exemption. In response, the CEC clarified that the election code does not obstruct the tendering process for Amaravati’s development. While allowing the government to proceed with inviting tenders, the commission stipulated that finalizing contracts must wait until the election process concludes.

With the Krishna-Guntur MLC elections underway and the election code in place until March 3, several key projects remain on hold. However, with this approval, the groundwork for Amaravati’s revival is set in motion, signaling a new chapter in the capital’s development journey.
