‘Devara’ Overseas deal sets a big challenge for NTR and Koratala

While the suspense over the release plans of NTR’s next pan-India offering ‘Devara’ hangs in balance, especially in the aftermath of recent rumours, the business offers for this Koratala Siva directional continue to make headlines. The latest we hear is that the overseas rights of Devara first part have been snapped for a fancy price of 27 Crores by a noted distribution house.

This means, the film will need to gross around 8 million including all its overseas territories to break even. So, it is going to be a challenging task for both NTR and Koratala Siva as they will need to deliver a unanimous blockbuster to secure the break-even mark given the current scenario in overseas market.

NTR’s biggest hit RRR grossed around $ 14 million in North America. But, it was a multi-starrer and directed by Rajamouli. As a solo hero, NTR’s highest-grossing film was Aravinda Sameta with $ 2.1 Million gross. For Koratala Siva, Bharat Ane Nenu was the biggest grosser with $ 3.4 million gross.

Devara will need to touch $ 5 million in North America to emerge as a safe venture. Hence, both NTR and Koratala will have to score the biggest hit in their careers with Devara.

Only four Telugu films grossed over $ 5 million in North America. Baahubali 2, Baahubali 1, RRR and Salaar are in the elite club. Hanuman is likely to join the list in the next few days. So, Devara will have an uphill task to achieve in North America.

Also, if the film gets postponed from April, it will need to get an ideal date to make sure that there won’t be stiff competition at the box office from other biggies.

Devara is billed as an action extravaganza with a unique storyline and massive range of VFX effects. It stars Jahnvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in significant roles.
