Soon after the Election Commission announced the schedule for Jubilee Hills by-election, a criminal case was registered against Congress leader Naveen Yadav. Naveen Yadav, who is a strong aspirant for Congress seat, for distributing voter ID cards violating Electoral rules.
Jubilee Hills Election Officer Rajinikanth Reddy, who considered this an act of tempting voters, filed a complaint with the Madura Nagar police. Due to this, cases were registered against him under BNS 170, 171, 174 and the Representation of the People Act.
Naveen Yadav, who is hoping for a Congress ticket in the Jubilee Hills by-election, distributed voter cards in Yousufguda on the 4th of this month against the rules of the Central Election Commission. The Election Commission has taken this matter seriously. As part of this, Jubilee Hills Election Officer, Yousufguda Circle, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Rajinikanth Reddy filed a complaint with the Madura Nagar police on Monday.
According to Section 23 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, the Election Commission is required to distribute voter cards directly to the eligible voter through the Electoral Registration Officer. Earlier, BJP MP Raghunandan Rao complained to the Election Commission that the Congress was violating the election code of conduct alleging distribution of Voter ID cards by Congress leaders.
Speaking to the media on this occasion, Raghunandan alleged that Congress leaders had set up a shop in Jubilee Hills where voter ID cards were distributed. He directly questioned how the voter cards that should have been in the hands of the Election Commission ended up in the hands of Congress leaders?
MP Raghunandan expressed surprise as to why the Election Commission and GHMC Commissioner are not speaking out when voter cards are being distributed in public? He was furious and asked how Congress leader Naveen Yadav, who is distributing voter cards in Jubilee Hills, is eligible to contest as an MLA?
Who gave voter ID cards to Naveen Yadav? Did the GHMC Commissioner give them? Did the Election Commission give them?, he asked questions. He demanded that the state government respond immediately on this matter.
