CRDA has initiated steps to make the capital Amaravati eco-friendly in this direction with the guidance of the World Bank and ADB. As per the master plan to develop it as a green city keeping in mind future needs, efforts have been made to obtain green building certification for the buildings.
With the commencement of the renovation work, workshops and awareness programs have been completed for the officials to achieve this certification. The government believes that if this starts from government buildings, it will pave the way for future developments in the capital.
Steps will be taken for this certification for buildings that have already been started and are in the final stages. High priority is being given to obtaining green certification for buildings under construction in the capital Amaravati. The aim is to significantly reduce carbon emissions and keep temperatures under control.
The government believes that by reducing the carbon footprint as much as possible, any adverse effects on the environment can be avoided. The IGBC (Indian Green Building Council), which issues certificates for these, is educating the officials. The World Bank and ADB, while providing loans for the construction of the capital, have suggested that construction should be carried out in a manner that does not harm the environment.
Solar panels will be installed on buildings to significantly reduce the consumption of conventional electricity. Devices and equipment that help save electricity will be used while electrifying the buildings. Water conservation is a part of this. Focus will be placed on water reuse.
STPs are being set up in each building complex. Concrete structures are made stronger by reducing the consumption of cement and using more GBBS (ground granulated blast furnace slag). These absorb less heat. Taking care to ensure proper lighting and ventilation will greatly reduce electricity consumption. This will indirectly benefit the environment.
The government expects that public health will improve as a result of these measures. This will also increase the living standards of the people. Subsidies will be available for these buildings. Keeping this in mind, green standards will be followed for the remaining works related to those that are already in the process of completion.
