The Telangana Congress party has decided to hold a BC Declaration Victory Ceremony in Kamareddy on the 15th of this month. Through this meeting, the Congress plans to strongly convey to the people the steps the party is taking to implement 42 percent reservation for BCs.

In particular, it wants to convey through this meeting that the party is committed to increasing the representation of BCs in education and jobs. AICC President Mallikarjuna Kharge, Congress top leader Rahul Gandhi and many national and state level leaders will be invited to this meeting. This will be a crucial event for the party.

This public meeting gains political significance at a time the BC Associations are building pressure on the government to ensure implementation of the quota citing the promise of Kamareddy Declaration of 2023. On the other hand, the Congress party will hold an extensive PCC meeting in Hyderabad on Monday . The meeting will mainly discuss further strengthening the party, as well as strategies related to the upcoming local body elections.

The meeting which will be held after more than two months will be exploring options available in wake of the High Court setting the deadline for conducting Local body polls by September 30. With the time running out, the options include asking the High Court for extension of Local body polls citing legal hurdles concerning the BC reservation issue.

With the Cabinet sub-committee taking legal opinion from experts and defending 42% reservation in the Supreme Court, over implementation of quota before local body polls, the party still hopes for positive results. And going ahead with polls without fulfilling the promise may cause backlash and reflect in the polls, said party sources.

Key decisions are likely to be taken on issues such as the steps to be taken to ensure the party’s victory in the local body elections, coordination of workers and leaders. Issues such as election planning and selection of candidates are also likely to come up for discussion. The Congress hopes to further consolidate its power in the state by winning upcoming local body elections.

For this, it will focus on strategies such as strengthening the party at the rural level and working to solve the problems of the people. Getting close to the people through programs like the BC Declaration and increasing trust in the party are important parts of these strategies. The party plans to discuss these issues in depth in the PCC meeting and formulate a clear course of action.
