Hyderabad: Controversy has erupted over allegedly inappropriate remarks made by actor Srikanth Bharat regarding Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Congress MLC Venkat Balmuri expressed strong outrage over the comments and filed a complaint with the police, demanding that a case of sedition be registered against the actor. On Saturday, Balmuri approached the Bashirbagh Cyber Crime Police in Hyderabad, urging them to initiate legal action against Srikanth Bharat.
Addressing the media, Balmuri criticized those who, under the pretext of freedom of speech, overstep limits. He alleged that individuals claiming to be heirs of Gandhi have made disrespectful statements against the Mahatma. He also appealed to senior members of the film industry to publicly respond to the actor’s controversial remarks.
Balmuri added that he plans to meet Manchu Vishnu, president of the MAA Association, to demand the immediate cancellation of Srikanth Bharat’s membership. He stressed that the matter will not be left unresolved and vowed to file complaints against the actor at all police stations across Telangana.
He further demanded that the police respond promptly and take strict action to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future. Balmuri emphasized the need for accountability to prevent disrespect towards national icons and safeguard public sentiment.
