Congress Alleges EVM Tampering, Rejects Haryana Results

Monday, December 23, 2024

The Congress rejected the Haryana Assembly Elections Verdict alleging EVM manipulation and accusing the BJP of subverting the people’s will. Congress leaders Pawan Khera and Jairam Ramesh called the results “unacceptable,” claiming they represented a triumph of the system over the will of the people.

“There have been constant complaints from Hisar, Mahendragarh, and Panipat districts about EVMs. The battery levels in these machines were at 99 percent, and in these areas, the results defeated the Congress. In contrast, we won in machines with battery levels at 60–70 per cent, which were not tampered with,” Khera stated.

He further declared, “We will take all these complaints to the Election Commission. This is not a victory of democracy but of manipulation, and we cannot accept it.

Congress General Secretary and Communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh said, “All afternoon, I’ve been in touch with the Election Commission. The Election Commission has replied to my complaint, I’ve replied to the reply. We’ve received very serious complaints on the process of counting, the functioning of EVMs in at least three districts. We’ve spoken to our senior colleagues in Haryana. This information is being collected, and we hope to present this in a consolidated form to the Election Commission.”

He accused the BJP of manipulation, stating, “These results are unexpected and counterintuitive. They go against the will of the people of Haryana, who had clearly demanded change and transformation.”

Earlier in the day, Ramesh sent a letter to the Election Commission, alleging irregularities in the vote counting process and claiming that data on the ECI’s website was not updated in a timely manner.

However, the ECI has rejected his contentions and said “There is nothing on record to substantiate your ill-founded allegation of slowdown in updating of results. Your memorandum also does not bring out any contrary facts as to the delay at any of the constituencies in Haryana or J&K.”
