Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has advised the police chiefs to take former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case as a case study in crime investigation. Conducting a review on law and order in the state at the Collector’s Conference, he asked them to keep crimes under control, otherwise everyone will question the credibility of the government, and that situation should not come to that.
The Chief MInister also made several suggestions. “Other crimes have decreased in the state. But economic crimes have increased. Ganja cultivation has decreased significantly. Its consumption also should be reduced further. Let’s bring a special law to stop online betting. It will also curb gambling”, he said.
Chandrababu cautioned that criminals are very clever and disappear without finding evidence. As some flee, while others blame others, he said that investigating officers should be vigilant and careful in collecting forensic evidence. They should be vigilant in the case of Maoists, he added.
He said that advanced technology should be used as much as possible to reduce crimes. Moreover, he said that the cooperation of the public should be sought in controlling crimes. The AP Police should work with the goal of crime control, investigation, and assurance to the people. Take your ‘lathi to data’ further, Chandrababu added.
DGP Harish Kumar Gupta revealed that special measures have been taken to reduce crimes in the state. He gave a powerpoint presentation at the conference. “From March last year to February this year, there has been a decrease of 17 percent of crimes compared to the previous year”, he said.
“We have installed 75,500 CCTVs and are patrolling with 187 drones. From June 2023 to January 2024, 18,114 crimes were committed against women, while from June 2024 to January 2025, 16,809 crimes were registered. We are providing continuous protection through the Shakti app with 164 teams”, he added.
The DGP said that they are able to reduce ganja cultivation from 11,000 acres to 100 acres and arrested 2,911 people smuggling ganja. IPS officers are expressing happiness over the CM’s satisfaction with the law and order situation.
