CM Chandrababu Advises Telangana Fighting over Godavari waters Is Not Good For Telugu states

Monday, December 8, 2025

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has advised Telangana state that fighting over Godavari waters is not good for the Telugu states and suggested that both of them move forward in a give-and-take approach. He made it clear that they have no objections to the projects being built by Telangana.

Stating that both the states are using Godavari waters, he clarified that except Polavaram, all the others are unauthorized projects. He wondered to what extent it is reasonable to create an issue over the use of water that meets in the sea? However, he clarified that Telangana has not spoken against the AP proposed Banakacharla project, but only seeking to ensure that nothing goes wrong.

He urged stating that “Let us all develop the state together. Both the states should be number one. Even after 20 years, the Telugu community should be number one in the world.”  He recalled that the construction of Polavaram project is being done as part of the AP Reorganization Act and we are transferring the water that comes here to another basin.

He recalled that “In the past, the staff of both states had a fight over the Krishna barrage. We have resolved the problem in the past by sitting with the Governor. There is no point in fighting over the low water in Krishna. Let us continue with the allocations made project-wise”.

After the new tribunal comes, Chandrababu expressed hope that we should move forward as per the allocations. “I myself have started many projects in united Andhra Pradesh. I started the Devadula and Kalvakurthi projects myself. We fought against corruption in the Yellampalli project in the assembly. I have never objected to Kaleshwaram”, he added.

CM Chandrababu said that if water is not used from above, it is natural that it will come down. “Both states are Telugu communities, why are there problems? If we want legality on the use of water that meets in the sea, let us discuss with the Center. How reasonable is it to create a problem on the use of water that meets in the sea,” said CM Chandrababu.

“Who benefits if we fight? Have we ever fought over Telangana? If we fight, is it to deceive the people? There is no benefit in deceiving the people. There is no need to fight, just give water to the projects they have built. Build the projects and take the water. Who doesn’t want that”, he added.
