Chaos marked at the Visakha GVMC Council meeting as both the ruling and opposition corporators raised issues against each other. There was a tense atmosphere in the council as the corporators of the alliance raising severe corrupt accusations against her, insisted that the mayor of the city should resign.
Soon after the council meeting began on Tuesday, both TDP and Jana Sena corporators started raising questions on the allegations of corruption that came to light in the GVMC.
Accusing that Mayor Hari Venkata Kumari, Deputy Mayors Jiyani Sridhar, Katta Muri Satish and floor leader Banala Srinivasa Rao have resorted to corrupt practices in utilization of UCD funds, they said that they have no moral right to continue in office.
Immediately after the start of the meeting of the governing body, a condolence resolution on the recent death of CPM leader Sitaram Yechury was presented. Later, the corporators insisted on running zero hours. With this, confusion started in the meeting.
At the same time, YSRCP corporators protested in the council holding placards demanding action against MLAs Raghurama Krishnamraj and Pantam Nanaji. Jana Sena corporators became angry because issues happened somewhere, bringing to the council meeting and throwing away their playcards.
Later, CPM corporator Dr. Gangaram, left corporators and YSRCP corporators raised slogans to pass a resolution against the privatization of the steel plant. The corporators of Telugu Desam responded with verbal attacks asking what happened to the previous resolution and what was done by the previous YSRCP government.
It was during this confusion that the female corporators protested at the podium saying that Mayor Hari Venkata Kumari, who is facing corruption charges, has no moral right to hold office. They insisted that the mayor should resign. Although she replied assuring to probe into those allegations, the tense atmosphere in the House continued.
Commissioner Sampath Kumar intervened and said that they will send a request to the collector to investigate in the capacity of special officer of GVMC. Mayor Hari Venkata Kumari adjourned the meeting to Wednesday amid the chaos.
Immediately, the alliance corporators gave a petition to the GVMC commissioner to investigate the corruption issues in the city administration. They also demanded a probe into corrupt allegations against the Mayor, Deputy Mayors and YSRCP floor leader.
