Ministers and MLAs including Chief Minister Naidu have been alerted in the wake of heavy rains by conducting successive reviews. MLAs are also visiting the field level and giving courage to the people of flooded areas. Officers, police and NDRF teams have entered the field and are issuing orders to immediately intensify the relief efforts.
In light of the ongoing flood surge in the Krishna River, officials have issued a danger alert at the Prakasam Barrage. Both Vijayawada and Guntur cities are under water. Traffic on highways is obstructed between Vijayawada and Guntur on one side, Vijayawada and Hyderabad on other side as water is flowing on the highways.
Vijayawada has recorded a highest of 29 c rainfall on Saturday itself, which was unprecedented during the last 50 years in the city. The AP Disaster Management Organization said that the low pressure formed in the west-central Bay of Bengal strengthened into a cyclone on Saturday and crossed the coast near Kalingapatnam in North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha between 12.30-2.30 PM on Saturday. Heavy rains are expected at many places on Sunday.
Chandrababu Naidu held a meeting with CMO officials in the wake of heavy rains and inquired about the measures being taken in the rain affected areas. Officials explained to the CM that although the rains have slowed down in the state, floods are still continuing in many areas. They also said that rescue operations are going on to save the people trapped in floods in many districts.
He was informed that NDRF, Revenue and Police have already taken extensive relief measures. However, the Chief Minister has directed the officials to ensure that relief teams go immediately to everyone who seeks help. Chandrababu released Rs 3 crore for each flood affected district for immediate relief measures.
On the other hand, in the background of heavy rains, the people are in dire straits, the Minister of the Revenue Anagani Satya Prasad, conducted a review with the officials of the Revenue Department. Orders have been issued to take measures to prevent people from getting trapped in floods.
He advised the people of the low-lying areas to safer places. He said to act with complete vigilance from moment to moment. He said that people should be helped in protective measures and ensure that there is no damage.
In the wake of the warnings of the Meteorological Department that the rains will continue for another 24 hours, the minister ordered the revenue department to be on full alert.
