One of the things that brought a bad name to the previous YSRCP government in AP is the arrears of bills. On the pretext of a change of government, the bills due to contractors and other groups for the work done during the previous government were made pending at that time.
Due to this, the contractors and the respective groups approached the High Court for the clearance of those bills, but to no avail. The officials who did not clear the bills, ignoring the High Court orders, had to stand in the court cage. Now the coalition government is being careful not to continue that mistake.
That is why, while giving priority to development works on the one hand, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is focusing on clearing old government bills on the other. In this order, pending bills of many groups are already being cleared. Government sources say that bills worth Rs 8,000 crores have been cleared in one go this January alone.
The AP government has focused mainly on the payments of pending bills since the beginning of 2025. Despite being in deep financial difficulties, Chandrababu’s government is focusing on the payments of pending bills.
Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav is giving detailed notes to CM Chandrababu Naidu on pending bills from time to time. With this, the government is depositing the bills pending by the previous government to various categories in a planned manner.
In this process, certificates have been received by 6.5 lakh students with the payment of fee reimbursement arrears. Relief payments have been made to the Polavaram displaced persons who have been waiting for five years. Rent payments have also been cleared to Amaravati farmers.
Pending funds are being released to provide relief to employees of various departments, police and small contractors who have been troubled by the policies of the previous government. It is reported that 26,000 small contractors are getting relief at once with the clearance of pending bills. Thus, Rs. 1000 crores have been cleared for Polavaram displaced persons, Rs. 1300 crores under payments to employees, and the fee reimbursement bill of Rs. 788 crores has been cleared.
