Chandrababu Focus On Amaravati, To Set Up A Study Team

Sunday, December 22, 2024

With the TDP coalition storming into power in the state, now everyone’s attention is turning towards Amaravati capital region, which was practically turned into a dumping yard by the previous YCP region. Moreover, after Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced that Amaravati will be the capital, the government is now focusing on how to revive the activity of developing it into a major global city.

Presently CRDA authorities are preoccupied with clearing of garbage. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister is contemplating a study committee to go into the status of various buildings and other construction activities initiated during his previous regime. The committee also will identify priority areas and work to be taken up immediately.

In two days, the government will formulate terms of reference to the committee. Along with officials from CRDA, Finance Department and Planning Department, experts from the construction sector will be inducted into this committee. Already, change of government has been leading to a revival of construction activity around Amaravati. Real Estate sector is also taking the lead.

Soon after the constitution of the study committee, its members will go around the capital region of Amaravati and prepare a separate report on the programmes of the Amaravati Government Complex (AGC), along with the underground drainage system, roads, electricity facilities and the status of the buildings under constitution.

The committee also has to provide estimations on financial resources needed for the works to be taken up. It will also need to estimate the value of damages of the structures that have been destroyed and rendered useless during the last five-years. First priority may be given to the completion of under-construction buildings.

The Committee is expected to prepare its comprehensive report within two months. During the establishment of Amaravati capital in the previous TDP government, a plan was made to provide infrastructure facilities at a cost of Rs.48,000 crores. In this, about Rs.9000.50 crores have been spent on construction of roads, electricity system, underground drainage, power lines, drinking water supply, temporary buildings required for government officials, employees, staff and judicial staff.

Goods worth about Rs.1,000 crores were imported. A plan has been made with Rs.11,000 crores. After the TDP lost in the assembly elections held in 2019 and YCP came to power, all those works came to a standstill. Most of those materials procured during that time were stolen by now.
