She is not a minister or a lawmaker. At least not a representative. It is a government program. As a minister’s wife, she participated in the program as a private person. There is no need for the police to follow any protocol during her such visit.
However, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wondered over the behaviour of a minister’s wife, insisting that the SI should follow her in her convoy. While the local people were watching on the road, she expressed her anger against the SI.
As this video went viral even TDP cadre became averse with the arrogant behaviour of Haritha, the wife of State Transport, Youth and Sports Minister Mandipalle Ramprasad Reddy. They started to question what is the difference between YCP and TDP leaders?
Knowing about this incident Chief Minister Chandrababu has expressed his displeasure over the way Transport Minister Ram Prasad Reddy’s wife treated the police. He faulted the way the minister’s wife Haritha spoke to the local SI. Ramprasad Reddy represents Rayachoti constituency in Annamaya district.
On Monday, he participated in programs related to his department in Visakhapatnam. His wife Haritha thought that she should participate in the pension distribution program for the poor. She told the local SI that she was on his way to distribution of pensions in Chinnamandem mandal and wanted to escort her vehicle for security arrangements.
She spoke harshly as the SI came late. Her speech was widely broadcast on TV. When this matter came to know, immediately Chandrababu spoke to Minister Ramprasad Reddy on the phone and asked for an explanation.
“Everything should be done with respect towards officials and employees. No matter what level they act to bring the government into disrepute there is nothing to ignore”. He made it clear to the minister that such an attitude will not be tolerated.
The minister expressed regret over the incident. He told the Chief Minister that he will ensure that such mistakes are not repeated. In a way, the Chief Minister has sent a clear message to all the ministers and leaders of the coalition parties on how to treat officials.
