The Central Government has issued a warning to OTT and social media platforms, directing them to strictly comply with the guidelines under the IT Act, 2021. In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting stated that it had received several complaints regarding obscene content.
The ministry also reminded that the Supreme Court had recently ordered the regulation of explicit content on YouTube. The warning comes in the wake of controversy surrounding comments made by Ranveer Allahbadia on India’s Got Talent.
The government emphasized that ‘A’ rated content should not be accessible to children and instructed platforms to ensure age-appropriate content availability. It also reiterated that no content violating regulations should be broadcast. Additionally, OTT platforms were urged to exercise self-regulation and uphold ethical standards.
