The incident of registering a case against YSRCP leader and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy at the Vedayapalem police station came to light late. However, the case was registered after a person from Venkatachalam mandal of Nellore district filed a complaint with the police on December 27. The police took action based on the complaint.
Mangala Venkata Seshaiah, the main accused in the sexual harassment allegations case, is a close friend of Kakani Govardhan Reddy and a former member of the ZPTC of Venkatachalam mandal. According to the complaint, Seshaiah is accused of sexually harassing a woman.

The complainant stated that Kakani attempted to influence the investigation by preventing the police from progressing smoothly.
